New Organ: Lutheran Church of the Epiphany (2025)

Assisting in the construction of a new pipe organ

Winston-Salem NC

New Organ by Lewtak Pipe Organ Builders

The Lutheran Church of the Epiphany has contracted Lewtak Pipe Organ Builders to construct a new organ for their sanctuary. The previous instrument began its life as a Möller, but various additions over the years had substantially altered—and to a degree compromised—its tonal character such that a replacement was favored over refurbishment. Some of the existing pipework, however, is still in excellent condition, and is being used in the new instrument.

The new organ will be of an essentially German character, with elements of both Baroque and Romantic organs combined tastefully for maximum flexibility in a relatively small organ. It will have everything needed for practical service playing, as well as a large portion of the standard organ repertoire.

We are assisting in almost all aspects of the construction of the instrument, ranging from the visual design of the thumb pistons and stop tabs (see above), to the voicing and visual appearance of many of the pipes. We are excited to be partnering with Lewtak for this project, whose excellent craftsmanship and artistic vision has been evident from the beginning of the project.
